Micro-inverter : one inverter under each panel

The micro-inverter replaces the central inverter with a small device under each panel: each module produces independently. If one is shaded, the others keep running at full capacity. wendows installs this equipment, activates it and stays your single point of contact for warranty and after-sales service.

When the micro-inverter makes the difference

The micro-inverter is not always necessary, but on some roofs it changes everything. Here are the situations where we recommend it most often in Belgium, to be confirmed during the survey.

Partially shaded roof
Shading

Shaded roof

Chimney, tree, neighbouring building: with a central inverter, a single shaded panel penalises the whole chain. The micro-inverter isolates the problem panel by panel.

Safety

Low-voltage architecture

The current is converted right at the panel: no high-voltage direct current (DC) on the roof. A reassuring approach on fire safety and intervention.

What makes a micro-inverter

Beyond the principle, it is the decentralised architecture that changes everything: per-panel production, safety and fine-grained tracking. The benchmarks to know, set out by our teams.

Type Decentralised

A micro-inverter under each panel replaces the central inverter. Each module produces independently: a shaded panel does not penalise the others, unlike a string architecture.

Power per panelkW

Each micro-inverter is sized for the power of one panel. You add as many as there are modules: the installation stays coherent even when enlarging the roof later.

Efficiency optimised/panel

Efficiency is not just about the conversion rate: by recovering production module by module, the architecture sharply limits losses on shaded or complex roofs.

Warranty up to 25years

Micro-inverters often benefit from a long manufacturer's warranty, which can go up to 25 years depending on the range. wendows handles the liaison and the intervention.

Monitoring Per module

The tracking shows production panel by panel. A failing module is spotted immediately, which makes remote diagnostics and after-sales service particularly precise.

Battery compatibility to be studied

The decentralised architecture can evolve towards storage depending on the ecosystem chosen. If the battery is part of the project, we frame the compatibility during the survey.

Approved installer

A per-panel architecture demands rigorous installation

Fitting a micro-inverter under each panel requires method and careful commissioning. Our teams install the micro-inverters according to the manufacturer's rules, activate the app and handle warranty and after-sales service directly.

Trained installer Used to the decentralised architecture and its installation requirements. These are our teams on site, not a sub-contractor down the chain.
Commissioning & activation Fitting a micro-inverter per panel, connecting the gateway and activating the app. Each module is checked individually before handover.
After-sales & per-module tracking Per-panel monitoring lets us detect an anomaly module by module and act quickly, without fumbling across the whole chain.
6% VAT & subsidies handled We put together the paperwork and apply the reduced photovoltaic VAT when the home qualifies. One contract, one party responsible.

Why choose a micro-inverter?

With a central (string) inverter, all the panels are wired in series: if one is shaded or soiled, it drags the whole chain down. The micro-inverter solves this problem by placing a small inverter under each panel. Each module produces independently, and a weak panel no longer penalises the others.

It is the go-to option for complex roofs: several pitches, different orientations, shading from a chimney or tree. Where a central inverter would level production down to the bottom, the micro-inverter recovers the yield panel by panel. On a clear, south-facing roof, however, a string inverter is often enough.

"On a shaded roof, the micro-inverter does not cost more: it is the lost yield, panel by panel, that would cost you.

The micro-inverter also brings a safety advantage: the current is converted right at the panel, with no high-voltage direct current (DC) on the roof. And on tracking, the app shows production module by module — a failing panel is spotted immediately. This is where our role as installer matters: rigorous installation, commissioning and precise after-sales service.

One inverter per panel. Each module produces and supervises itself independently: the shading of one panel no longer penalises the others, and tracking happens at module level.

On the budget side, the micro-inverter is priced per panel rather than as a single central device. The difference is justified by anti-shading, safety, fine-grained tracking and an often long warranty. To get a sense of your project, start from our price page, then request a detailed quote.

How much does an installed micro-inverter cost?

The micro-inverter is priced per panel, not as a single device — that is the logic of the decentralised architecture. Here are starting ranges for equipment installed by our teams, subsidies and reduced VAT applied afterwards.

FAQ Micro-inverter

Your questions about the micro-inverter

What is a micro-inverter?

It is a small inverter placed under each panel, which converts the current from that single module. Instead of one central inverter for the whole installation, you have one per panel. Each module produces independently of the others.

Why a micro-inverter rather than a central inverter?

Mainly to handle shading and complex roofs: a shaded panel no longer penalises the others. It also brings better safety (no high-voltage DC on the roof) and panel-by-panel tracking. On a clear, south-facing roof, a string inverter is often still sufficient.

Is the micro-inverter suitable for shaded roofs?

Yes, that is precisely its strong point. Chimney, tree or neighbouring building: each micro-inverter isolates the panel concerned, so that the modules in the sun keep running at full capacity. It is the most relevant architecture on partially shaded roofs.

Can each panel be tracked individually?

Yes. The monitoring app shows production module by module, not just the total for the installation. A failing or soiled panel is spotted immediately, which makes remote diagnostics and after-sales service very precise.

What warranty on a micro-inverter?

Depending on the range, the manufacturer's warranty can go up to 25 years, longer than that of a classic string inverter. wendows handles the liaison and the intervention. The exact conditions are stated on your quote.

How much does an installed micro-inverter cost?

Expect from around €110 per panel, plus the control gateway. The total cost depends on the number of modules: that is the logic of per-panel pricing. Subsidies and 6% VAT deducted afterwards.
