Inverter : the heart of your solar installation

The inverter converts the direct current from the panels into alternating current you can use at home: it is the heart of your solar installation. String, micro-inverter or hybrid, each architecture has its own logic. wendows selects, installs and configures the right inverter, and stays your single point of contact for warranty and after-sales service.

The inverters we install

There is no single inverter that is « best » in absolute terms: it all depends on your roof and your needs. Here are the families we install most often in Belgium, each chosen case by case during the survey.

Wall-mounted string inverter
String

String (central) inverter

A single device converts the current from all the panels. Simple, robust and cost-effective, it is the default choice for a clear roof with no significant shading.

Micro-inverter under a panel
Micro

Micro-inverter

A micro-inverter under each panel: if one module is shaded, the others keep running at full capacity. The best answer for complex or partially shaded roofs.

What makes a good inverter

Beyond the type, it is conversion efficiency, warranty and monitoring that make the difference over time. The key benchmarks to know before choosing, set out by our teams.

Type String / micro / hybrid

Three architectures for three logics: a central inverter, a micro-inverter per panel, or a hybrid that also manages the battery. The right choice depends on your roof and your storage plans.

Power to be sizedkW

The inverter's power is sized relative to that of the panels: neither under-sized (lost production) nor over-sized (needless extra cost). We set this ratio during the survey.

Efficiency up to ~98%

The European conversion efficiency quoted is high on residential ranges. Little energy is lost between the panels and your switchboard; the exact value depends on the model.

Warranty 10 to 25years

Depending on the type and brand, the manufacturer's warranty ranges from around 10 years for a string inverter to 25 years for some micro-inverters. wendows handles the liaison and the intervention.

Monitoring Included

Modern inverters include production tracking via app or web: real-time production, history and alerts. Essential for remote diagnostics and after-sales service.

Battery compatibility depends on type

A hybrid inverter manages the battery natively; a string or micro-inverter can be coupled with one depending on the range. It is best to anticipate storage right from the inverter choice.

Approved installer

The inverter alone is not enough: it is the sizing and the installation that deliver the efficiency

A good inverter that is poorly sized or poorly configured loses much of its value. Our teams choose the right architecture, wire and configure the inverter according to the manufacturer's rules, then handle monitoring, warranty and after-sales service directly.

Choice of architecture String, micro-inverter or hybrid: we choose based on your roof, your shading and your battery plans — not a product imposed in advance.
Precise sizing We match the inverter's power to that of the panels to avoid under- and over-sizing. The ratio is set during the survey, not left to chance.
Commissioning & monitoring Configuration, grid connection and activation of the tracking. Everything is tested before we hand over the keys to the monitoring app.
6% VAT & subsidies handled We put together the paperwork and apply the reduced photovoltaic VAT when the home qualifies. One contract, one party responsible.

Why is the inverter the heart of your installation?

The panels capture the energy, but it is the inverter that makes it usable: it converts the direct current (DC) produced on the roof into alternating current (AC) compatible with your switchboard and the grid. Without it, not a single device switches on. It is, quite rightly, the heart of the solar installation.

There are three main architectures. The string inverter, central, converts all the panels together: simple and cost-effective, perfect for a clear roof. The micro-inverter, placed under each panel, optimises module by module and excels on shaded or multi-pitch roofs. The hybrid inverter, for its part, also manages the battery for self-consumption and backup.

"A good inverter is one you forget about: it converts, supervises and alerts all on its own, year after year.

This is where our role as installer matters. We choose the architecture suited to your roof, size the inverter relative to the panels, configure it and remain your single point of contact for warranty, settings and after-sales service. Monitoring also lets us act remotely as soon as an alert comes through.

~98%

A high conversion efficiency. On residential ranges, little energy is lost between the panels and your switchboard — the exact value depends on the type of inverter and the sizing.

On the budget side, the price depends mainly on the type and power of the inverter, not just the brand. A string inverter starts lower than a hybrid, and the micro-inverter is priced per panel. To get a sense of your project, start from our price page, then request a detailed quote.

FAQ Inverter

Your questions about solar inverters

What is a solar inverter for?

The inverter converts the direct current (DC) produced by the panels into alternating current (AC) usable by your appliances and compatible with the grid. It is the heart of the installation: without it, the energy from the panels cannot be used.

String, micro-inverter or hybrid: which to choose?

The string (central) inverter suits clear roofs and remains the most cost-effective. The micro-inverter, one per panel, shines on shaded or complex roofs. The hybrid also manages the battery for self-consumption. The right choice depends on your roof and your storage plans — we settle it during the survey.

What efficiency can you expect from an inverter?

The conversion efficiency of modern residential inverters often reaches up to ~98%. In practice, little energy is lost between the panels and your switchboard. The exact value depends on the model and on proper sizing relative to the panels.

Does an inverter manage a battery?

A hybrid inverter manages the battery natively in a single device. A string or micro-inverter can be coupled with one depending on the range. If storage is part of your project, it is best to anticipate it right from the inverter choice.

What warranty on an inverter?

Depending on the type and brand, the manufacturer's warranty ranges from around 10 years for a string inverter to 25 years for some micro-inverters. wendows handles the liaison and the intervention. The exact conditions are stated on your quote.

How much does an installed inverter cost?

Expect from around €1,200 for an installed string inverter, from ~€110 per panel for a micro-inverter, and from ~€1,800 for a hybrid managing the battery. It all depends on the power and the type, with subsidies and 6% VAT deducted afterwards.
