Heat pump + solar: heat your home with your own energy

A heat pump runs on electricity: producing it yourself with panels melts away the cost of your heating. The perfect pairing to break free from fossil fuels — and a single quote covers it.

Everything you need to know before switching to a heat pump

Installing a heat pump means you stop burning gas or oil and start tapping free energy that’s already in the air or the ground. A heat pump delivers three to four times more heat than the electricity it consumes: the heating bill is slashed, and the home moves away from fossil fuels. But a good installation isn’t improvised: everything comes down to the heat-loss study and choosing the right technology.

The right instinct isn’t to pick the most powerful heat pump, but the one that fits your home — that’s where the real savings are made.

Size it right, rather than going too big

The ideal capacity isn’t the largest possible, but the one that matches your home’s heat losses. Too small, it struggles on cold days; too large, it wears out cycling on and off. Here are the options depending on your situation :

Air-to-water, the heart of heating

To replace a boiler, the air-to-water heat pump is the most complete solution: it powers your central heating and your domestic hot water from the heat in the air. It performs best at low temperatures, which pairs ideally with underfloor heating or oversized radiators. We explain the concrete impact on your comfort and your bill.

÷4

your heating use can be divided by three to four : a heat pump returns up to 4 kWh of heat for 1 kWh of electricity (COP). The higher the seasonal COP (SCOP), the more cost-effective the installation.

A wendows advisor helps you weigh up technology, capacity and budget — without needless jargon, true to our one stop shop approach.

And what about domestic hot water ?

If your heating is already efficient but your hot water stays expensive, a thermodynamic water heater draws heat from the ambient air to produce your domestic hot water at lower cost. It’s often the first building block of an energy renovation, simple to install and quickly paid back. Not everyone needs one : we compare the costed scenarios before deciding.

Grants, VAT and return on investment

In renovation, the installation qualifies for the reduced 6% VAT for homes over ten years old, and depending on your region and income, grants are added on top. The return on investment depends above all on the heating you’re replacing and on your consumption.

We handle the paperwork, not you

Grant application, declaration and tax benefits: we take care of everything. An overview of the support available by region is in our grants & support section.

And after the installation ?

A well-installed system is quiet, properly tuned and connected to standard. Simple periodic maintenance keeps performance at its best, and our after-sales service stays reachable over time for the slightest adjustment.

If you also produce your own electricity, the heat pump pairs ideally with solar panels: you heat your home with your own energy. Living in a big city ? Our heat pump in Brussels, in Liège or in your municipality pages detail local grants and references.

Heat pump FAQ

Your questions about heat pumps

Air-to-water or air-to-air: which to choose? +

Air-to-water powers your central heating and your domestic hot water: it’s the most complete solution for replacing a boiler. Air-to-air, on the other hand, blows warm or cool air through splits and is best suited as a supplement, for a living area or for cooling in summer. The right choice depends on your current setup and your needs; we decide together during the study.

Does a heat pump really work in the Belgian winter? +

Yes. Modern heat pumps stay efficient down to sub-zero temperatures, because they capture energy that is present in the air even in deep cold. Their performance (COP) naturally drops when it freezes, but it remains far higher than direct electric heating. Proper sizing and decent insulation guarantee comfort even during cold snaps.

Does a heat pump work with my existing radiators? +

Often yes, but it depends on their size and the water temperature required. Heat pumps perform best at low temperatures, which pairs ideally with underfloor heating or oversized radiators. With standard radiators, a high-temperature heat pump or a hybrid solution may be suitable. The heat-loss study determines this before any commitment.

What grants and what VAT apply to a heat pump? +

In renovation, installing a heat pump qualifies for the reduced 6% VAT for homes over ten years old. Depending on your region and income, grants can reach several thousand euros. We put together the administrative file and apply the benefits you’re entitled to, without over-promising.

What maintenance and what noise should I expect? +

A heat pump needs simple periodic maintenance, which we provide through a contract with technicians based in Belgium. As for noise, recent units are discreet; a well-chosen location and a careful installation further limit any nuisance for you and your neighbours. We factor this in right from the study.

Heat pump or gas/oil boiler: which to choose? +

A heat pump runs on electricity but returns three to four times more energy than it consumes, which slashes the heating bill and moves you away from fossil fuels. A boiler can still make sense during a transition, which is where hybrid solutions come in. We honestly compare the costed scenarios based on your home and your budget.
