The price factors

What makes the price of your air-to-air heat pump vary

For the same number of units, two quotes can differ by several hundred euros. Here are the line items that really count.

  • Number of indoor units

Each additional indoor unit adds 600 to 1 200 € to the budget (equipment + installation). The choice between mono, bi and multi-split is the first price lever.

  • Power (kW)

A 5 kW outdoor unit costs significantly less than a 10 kW one. The power is sized on the area to be treated and the insulation of the home.

  • Brand (Daikin, Mitsubishi…)

Premium brands (Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic) command prices 15 to 30 % higher than budget ranges, but offer a higher COP and a 5- to 7-year warranty.

    See heat pump brands →
  • Length of refrigerant lines

Every metre of refrigerant line (copper + insulation) between the outdoor and indoor units adds 30 to 60 €. An installation that is far apart or across several floors increases the cost.

  • Location of the outdoor unit

Accessible façade, roof terrace, plant room: accessibility and the fixing (wall bracket, ground support, anti-vibration mount) influence the labour.

  • Finish and discretion

Concealed service ducts, casings, recessed indoor units (ceiling cassettes) or high-end design: an aesthetic choice that can add 300 to 800 €.

Grants & subsidies 2026

The grants available for an air-to-air heat pump in Belgium

Grants for the air-to-air heat pump are more limited than for air-to-water, because it does not produce domestic hot water and does not replace central heating. On the other hand, the reduced 6 % VAT remains available in renovation.

Brussels-Capital

Renolution grants — conditional

depending on situation if installed by a certified installer

The Renolution grant can cover the installation of an air-to-air heat pump provided it is installed by a certified installer and meets the efficiency criteria (EER ≥ 3.5). Amount to be confirmed based on your income.

  • Certified heat pump installer (recognised Renolution certification)
  • EER ≥ 3.5 and SCOP ≥ 3.8 (required for the application)
  • Home over 10 years old
  • Itemised invoice provided

6 % VAT in renovation

6 % VAT instead of 21 % — home > 10 years

When renovating a home over 10 years old, the supply and installation of an air-to-air heat pump benefit from the reduced 6 % VAT. That is a saving of 150 to 1 200 € depending on the configuration.

  • Home for private use over 10 years old
  • Invoice issued in the name of the owner-occupier
  • Sworn declaration certificate (provided by wendows)
  • Applies to supply AND labour

Price FAQ

Your questions about the price of an air-to-air heat pump

How much does an air-to-air heat pump cost in 2026 in Belgium?

A mono-split system (1 room) supplied and installed costs between 1 500 and 3 000 €. A bi-split (2 rooms) sits between 3 000 and 5 000 €, and a multi-split (3 to 5 rooms) between 5 000 and 8 000 €, electrical connections and refrigerant lines included.

Does the price include both cooling and heating?

Yes. A reversible air-to-air heat pump heats in winter and cools in summer with the same system. The installed price covers both functions: there is no extra cost to switch from one mode to the other.

Are there grants for an air-to-air heat pump in Belgium?

Grants are more limited than for an air-to-water heat pump. In Belgium, the 6 % VAT applies in renovation (home > 10 years). In Brussels, the Renolution grant may be available under conditions (certified installer, EER/SCOP criteria). We check your situation during the quote.

What is the price difference between mono-split and multi-split?

Each additional indoor unit adds on average 600 to 1 500 € depending on the brand and the power. A bi-split (2 heads) typically costs 1 500 to 2 000 € more than a mono-split of comparable power, because the outdoor unit is more powerful and the refrigerant lines are doubled.

Does the air-to-air heat pump replace central heating?

Not entirely. The air-to-air heat pump heats the indoor air directly, without producing domestic hot water or feeding radiators or underfloor heating. It is ideal as a complement to existing heating or as the main heating in regions with mild winters. For a complete boiler replacement, the air-to-water heat pump is more suitable.

How long does it take to install an air-to-air heat pump?

The installation of a mono-split or bi-split is generally done in a single day. A multi-split (3 to 5 heads) may require 1 to 2 days depending on the complexity of routing the refrigerant lines and the accessibility of the rooms.
