The criteria that make your wall grant amount vary
For the same area, two applications can lead to very different amounts. Here are the key criteria to know before planning your wall insulation work.
- R value achieved
The higher the thermal resistance, the more the grant conditions are met. In Wallonia, R ≥ 3.5 is the minimum threshold for walls; in Brussels, R ≥ 2.5. Our technicians size the insulant to reach these thresholds.
- Technique chosen (external / internal / injection)
ETICS, ITI and cavity injection are all three eligible for grants. The choice depends on the façade configuration, the desired finishes and site constraints. ETICS is often preferred for the best performance.
Façade insulation prices → - Wall area treated
Grants are calculated per m² of wall insulated. The larger the area, the higher the total amount. The number of façades treated and the presence of openings are taken into account.
- Façade finishes
In ETICS, the finishing system (silicone render, mineral render, wood or composite cladding) affects the total cost but not directly the grant amount, which is calculated on the gross insulated area.
- Scaffolding
For façade ETICS, scaffolding is needed. This item represents a cost not covered by the grant but benefits from the 6% VAT on renovation. It is included in our quote net of grant.
- Prior energy audit
In Wallonia, a prior home audit is recommended and may be mandatory for the highest amounts. It identifies all the available grants and optimises the work. We work with accredited auditors.

The wall insulation grant programmes 2026
Each Belgian region has its own programme. Here are the two main ones for our wall insulation projects: Wallonia and Brussels-Capital.
Prime Habitation — wall insulation
The Walloon Prime Habitation covers the upgrading of the thermal insulation of walls, whether from the outside (ETICS), from the inside (ITI) or by cavity injection. The amount is calculated according to the cadastral income, the area treated and the R value achieved.
- Minimum thermal resistance R ≥ 3.5 for walls (ETICS or ITI)
- Registered contractor and detailed invoice with R values and thicknesses
- Prior home audit recommended (mandatory above a certain amount)
- Can be combined with the third-party payer scheme to avoid upfront payment
Renolution — wall insulation
The Brussels Environment Renolution programme subsidises wall insulation according to three income categories (A = precarious, B = middle, C = high). The minimum R value required is R ≥ 2.5 for walls. The ETICS, ITI and injection techniques are all eligible.

- Home over 10 years old, pre-1996 for certain components
