Heat pump for a large home & villa

Beyond 250 m², a heat pump is not chosen off the catalogue: it needs the right output, sometimes several machines in cascade, geothermal for very large areas and zone-by-zone control. We size it on your real heat losses to heat the whole villa without over-consuming.

What we take on

A solution sized for large areas

A large home combines heated volume, long pipe runs and several living atmospheres. The answer is not "the biggest heat pump possible", but a heating architecture designed for peak output as well as for the shoulder seasons.

High-power heat pump & cascade

For high heat losses, we install a high-power heat pump or a cascade of several machines managed together. Each one only runs as needed: efficiency preserved in mid-season, full power in severe cold.

Ground-source geothermal

On very large areas, geothermal (horizontal loops or vertical boreholes) delivers a stable COP all winter, independent of the outdoor temperature — the best efficiency when demand is high.

Multi-zone management

Living spaces, night zone, office, outbuildings: we divide the villa into zones with their own setpoints and time schedules, so only what is occupied gets heated.

Pool & hot water coupling

We integrate domestic hot water production for a large household and, if needed, pool heating, into one coherent installation rather than separate appliances.

Precise sizing

Room-by-room heat-loss calculation, emitter flow rates, balancing of the network. On a large home, a sizing error costs thousands of kWh every winter.

Extended hydraulic network

Low-loss header, circulators suited to the pipe-run lengths, integration with the underfloor heating and the existing radiators. A clean hydraulic system keeps the output reaching the most distant rooms.

How it works

From the audit to commissioning

  1. Thermal audit of the villa

Survey of the floor areas, the room-by-room heat losses and the existing emitters. We identify the zones, the peak output and the right type of heat pump (high-power air-source or geothermal).

  2. Architecture & grant-deducted quote

Choice between a single high-power heat pump, a cascade or ground-source, division into zones, DHW / pool coupling. Detailed quote with the regional grant already deducted.

  3. Installation

Installation of the units, extended hydraulic network, multi-zone integration, DHW tank sized for a large household. Planned and coordinated works.

  4. Commissioning & fine tuning

Setting the heating curve, balancing the zones, checking the cascade, handover. Fine tuning is what makes the difference on a large home.

Air-source or geothermal?

Air-source cascade or ground-source geothermal

On a large home, two approaches both stack up depending on the site and the demand. The air-to-water heat-pump cascade installs anywhere and modulates output finely. Ground-source geothermal requires a borehole or loops, but offers the most stable efficiency when the villa demands a lot of heat all winter — and it can be managed just as well in multi-zone mode.

  • Air-to-water cascade: no borehole, fine modulation, quick installation
  • Ground-source geothermal: high and constant COP, ideal on very large areas
  • Both can be managed in multi-zone mode, with DHW and pool coupling

Frequently asked questions

Heat pump for a large home

Is a single heat pump enough for a large villa?

Often yes up to a certain output, with a high-power air-to-water heat pump. Beyond that, or in case of high heat losses, we prefer a cascade of two or more machines: they take turns according to demand, which avoids a big heat pump running permanently at full load and preserves efficiency in mid-season.

What is the point of geothermal on a large home?

The larger the area, the higher and more regular the heat demand: that is exactly where ground-source geothermal shines. Its COP stays stable all winter, independent of the outdoor cold, where an air-to-water heat pump loses efficiency in severe frost. The investment (borehole or loops) is all the more justified when consumption is high.

How can you heat the rooms of a villa differently?

Through multi-zone management. We divide the home into zones — living spaces, night zone, office, outbuildings — each with its own setpoint and time schedules. We only heat the occupied spaces, which clearly reduces the bill on a large area, without sacrificing comfort where you live.

Can you heat the pool and the hot water with the same installation?

Yes. We integrate domestic hot water production for a large household and, if you wish, pool heating into one coherent installation. This avoids multiplying appliances and lets you manage the whole thing with a priority logic (heating, DHW, pool).

Why is sizing so critical on a large home?

Because the error is paid for dearly. An oversized heat pump chains short cycles that wear it out and waste energy; undersized, it cannot hold the villa in severe cold. On 250 m² and more, a room-by-room heat-loss calculation and a balanced hydraulic network are worth several thousand kWh per winter. That is the heart of our audit.
