Aluminium colour: the full RAL range, in matt, satin or two-tone

Aluminium can be powder-coated in any RAL colour, oven-cured for decades of durability. Anthracite, deep black, grey or bronze: choose the exact colour, the finish (matt, satin, textured) and even an exterior different from the interior thanks to two-tone.

What makes a good aluminium colour

The colour of an aluminium window is above all a process: powder coating. Here are the technical benchmarks that make the difference between a colour that lasts and one that fades.

  • Powder coating
    Cured powder

The paint powder is sprayed on electrostatically then cured in the oven at ~200 °C. It forms a hard, uniform layer, far more resistant than liquid paint: this is what ensures the colour holds over time.

  • Colour range
    +200 RAL

The whole RAL nomenclature is available, from white 9010 to anthracite 7016 via black 9005 and the greys 7039. Beyond RAL, special and metallic colours can be ordered on request.

  • Finishes
    Matt to textured

Gloss, satin, deep matt, textured (slightly grainy, smudge-resistant) or sandblasted: the finish changes the look as much as the colour. The textured "Coatex" effects are very popular for their contemporary matt feel.

  • Two-tone
    2 colours

Aluminium can be coated on both faces: one colour on the street side, another on the room side. Anthracite outside and white inside, for example, for a design façade without darkening the interior.

  • Coating guarantee
    Qualicoat

The Qualicoat and Qualimarine labels certify the quality of the coating and its resistance (corrosion, UV, coastal environment). They provide a guarantee on the colour holding, generally from 10 to 25 years.

  • Dark colours
    South to assess

Black and anthracite absorb heat: on a full-south aspect, the profile heats up and expands more. A suitable coating ("Cool" type with reflective pigments) limits overheating on these faces.

* The coating and its guarantee depend on the system supplier and the coater. The colours shown on screen are indicative — a physical colour chart is presented at the site survey to validate the real colour.

Choosing your aluminium colour

The colour of an aluminium window is a major advantage, but a few points are worth knowing before settling your choice. Here are the essentials, no beating around the bush.

What people love

  • Total colour freedomThe whole RAL range plus special colours: no limit, unlike PVC.
  • Lasting durabilityOven-cured powder coating does not flake and keeps its colour for decades.
  • Two-tone without heavy surchargeA dark façade outside, a light interior: natively doable on aluminium.
  • Minimal maintenanceNo paint to redo; a clean with soapy water is enough to revive the colour.

What you should know

  • Special colour = surchargeOutside standard RAL or metallic, bespoke coating generally adds 5 to 15%.
  • Two-tone billed extraTwo coating passes: allow a surcharge on the price of the window.
  • Dark + full-south to anticipateBlack heats up; on a large south-facing bay, a reflective coating is advised.
  • Colour fixed after curingOnce coated, aluminium is not easily repainted: the colour choice is final.
Which colour for you

The colours that work in Belgium

Some colours have established themselves on Belgian façades. Here are the safe bets and the cases where they shine:

  • Anthracite & black

    Anthracite & black

RAL 7016 (anthracite) and 9005 (deep black) dominate contemporary renovations: a sharp contrast on red brick or light render, very much in demand.

  • Whites & light greys

    Whites & light greys

White 9010 and the greys 7039/7035 remain the understated, bright choices, perfect for not weighing down a light façade or a small interior.

  • Bronze & two-tone

    Bronze & two-tone

Bronze colours and two-tone combinations (dark outside, light inside) mark out top-of-the-range projects: character on the street side, light on the room side.

PVC can be coloured too?

Yes, but with a more limited palette via foiling. Take a look at the PVC window colours, or its wood effect if you are after an oak or walnut look.

Aluminium colour FAQ

Your questions about aluminium colour

Which colours are possible on an aluminium window? +

The whole RAL range, that is more than 200 colours, from white 9010 to anthracite 7016, to black 9005 or bronze. Beyond RAL, special, metallic or effect colours can be ordered on request from the coater. Aluminium is, by far, the material that offers the widest choice of colours.

What is powder coating? +

It is the process that colours aluminium: a paint powder is sprayed electrostatically onto the profile, then cured in the oven at around 200 °C. It forms a hard, uniform layer, far more resistant than liquid paint. This is what guarantees the colour holds for several decades, without flaking.

Which colours are most in demand in Belgium? +

Anthracite RAL 7016 largely dominates contemporary renovations, followed by black 9005 and the greys 7039/7035. White 9010 remains the safe bet for light façades. Bronze and two-tone (dark outside, light inside) are gaining ground on top-of-the-range projects.

Two-tone, how does it work? +

Aluminium is coated on its two faces separately: you choose one colour on the exterior side and another on the interior side. It is very much used to show a dark, design façade while keeping a white, bright interior. Two-tone requires two coating passes, hence a slight surcharge.

Do dark colours cause problems on the south side? +

Black and anthracite absorb heat: on a full-south aspect or a large bay, the profile heats up and expands more. This is not prohibitive, but we advise a reflective coating ("Cool" type) on these faces to limit overheating and the strain on the opening leaf.

Is the colour guaranteed over time? +

Yes, when the coating carries the Qualicoat or Qualimarine labels. They certify the resistance of the film to UV, corrosion and the coastal environment, and provide a guarantee on the colour holding, generally from 10 to 25 years. A simple clean with soapy water once or twice a year is enough to maintain it.
