Wood-effect PVC windows: the character of wood without its upkeep

A foiled decor film reproduces the grain and colour of wood — oak, walnut, mahogany — directly on the PVC profile. You keep the charm of a character home and the insulation of PVC, with no paint to redo and no solid-wood premium. The ideal compromise when renovating in older neighbourhoods.

What a wood-decor PVC window is really worth

The wood decor is a heat-bonded film (foiling) on a standard PVC profile: you get the performance of PVC with a wood look. The concrete pointers.

  • Available decors
    20+ colours

Golden oak, Irish oak, walnut, mahogany, foiled anthracite grey and many more. Each film reproduces the grain and tones of a real species, with a natural matt finish close to oiled wood.

  • Textured grain
    To the touch

Premium decors are embossed: you feel the relief of the wood grain under your hand, not a smooth printed surface. From afar or up close, the illusion is convincing, including on character homes.

  • Foiling
    1 or 2 faces

Wood decor outside and white inside (the most common, for a bright interior), or wood on both sides for a traditional-joinery look. Choose according to your decor and neighbourhood constraints.

  • Thermal insulation
    Uf 1.0–1.3 W/m²K

The film changes nothing about performance: it is a multi-chamber PVC profile, one of the best insulators in joinery. Combined with double or triple glazing, the assembly reaches the level of a high-performance renovation.

  • Film durability
    10 years +

Modern foiled films resist UV and the weather without peeling or fading. Dark decors receive a solar-reflective film (cool colours) to limit heat build-up and preserve the colour over time.

  • Maintenance
    Almost none

No stain, no sanding, no paint to redo every five years as with solid wood. Cleaning with soapy water is enough to keep the original look for decades.

* Indicative values for multi-chamber PVC profiles of a common range with a wood-decor film. Exact performance depends on the model, the glazing and the chosen decor — specified during the survey.

Pros & cons of foiled wood decor

Wood-effect PVC is appealing in renovation, but it is not solid wood. Here, honestly, is where it excels and where to be aware.

Where it excels

  • The character of wood at PVC pricesThe look of oak joinery for a fraction of the cost of solid wood.
  • No maintenanceNo stain or paint to redo: the look stays intact for years.
  • Perfect for character homesIdeal where wood is required or aesthetically expected in an older neighbourhood.
  • The insulation of PVCA very insulating multi-chamber profile, with no compromise on thermal performance.

What you should know

  • It is not real woodVery close up, a trained eye can tell the film from genuine wood and its feel.
  • A slight premium over white PVCFoiling adds roughly 10 to 20% over a standard white PVC profile.
  • Dark decors and heatDark colours heat up in the sun: we require a cool-colours film for southern exposure.
  • Tricky local repairA deep scratch in the film is hard to fix: white PVC is easier to refurbish.

Is wood-decor PVC right for you?

It comes into its own whenever you want the charm of wood without its budget or upkeep. A few cases where it works wonders:

  • Character home

    Character home

Older houses, cottages, mansion houses: wood decor respects the spirit of the facade where white PVC would clash too much with stone and brick.

  • Neighbourhood where wood is required

    Neighbourhood where wood is required

Some planning rules or older neighbourhoods expect a wood look. Foiled decor meets the aesthetic requirement for a much gentler budget.

  • After a warm decor

    After a warm decor

For those who want a warm atmosphere on the room side, two-face foiling brings the colour and grain of wood right into the interior, with no stain to maintain.

Torn between real wood and a uni colour?

If you want the authenticity of a solid species and accept the upkeep, look at wood windows. And for a contemporary look in a full colour, coloured PVC offers a whole palette of RAL.

Wood-effect PVC window FAQ

Your questions on wood decor

Does the wood decor really fool the eye? +

Yes, provided you choose a quality film. Premium decors are embossed: they reproduce the grain with a textured feel you can sense to the touch. From the street, the wood effect is convincing; very close up, a trained eye can tell it is a foiled film on PVC.

Which wood decors do you offer? +

The most requested are golden oak, Irish oak, walnut, mahogany and foiled anthracite grey, but the range exceeds twenty decors. We show you the real samples during the survey so you can choose the colour that suits your facade.

Will the film peel or fade over time? +

Modern foiled films are heat-bonded and resist UV and the weather. On dark decors, we use a solar-reflective film (cool colours) to limit heat build-up and preserve the colour. Durability runs to over ten years with no maintenance.

Can I have the wood on the inside too? +

Yes. Foiling can be done on a single face (wood outside, white inside, the most common for keeping a bright interior) or on both faces, for a wood-joinery look right into the room. The premium for two-face foiling is around 10 to 20%.

What is the difference from a real wood window? +

Wood decor is a film on a PVC profile: it offers the look and the insulation of PVC with no maintenance whatsoever. A wood window is solid wood, authentic and noble, but requires regular staining and costs noticeably more. Wood decor is the charm/budget/upkeep compromise.

What grants apply to these windows? +

Grants depend on the performance achieved (Uw coefficient), not on the decor. A high-performance wood-decor PVC window qualifies, depending on your region and income, for a renovation grant and 6% VAT on homes over ten years old. We handle the paperwork for you.
