What determines the amount of your solar grants
Solar panel grants are not automatic: several parameters determine whether you qualify and for how much. Here are the key levers.
- Region of the installation
Wallonia, Brussels-Capital and Flanders have completely different mechanisms. The region determines the type of grant (green certificates, direct grant, prosumer tariff) and the competent grid operator.
- Installed capacity (kWc)
The higher the capacity, the more green certificates are generated. In Wallonia, a 6 kWc installation produces about twice as many certificates as a 3 kWc one.

In Brussels, the Renolution grant is increased for low or middle-income households. In Flanders, some municipal grants are also means-tested.
- Date of application & deadlines
Each mechanism imposes a filing deadline after commissioning. In Wallonia, the CWaPE declaration must be made before the grid operator’s first bill. In Brussels, the Renolution file is filed before works begin.
- Age of the home
The 6 % VAT in renovation is reserved for homes older than 10 years. In Brussels, the Renolution grant also requires a home older than 10 years for the photovoltaic component.
- Certified installer
All grants require an accredited installer (Qualiwatt or RGE equivalent in Wallonia, registered contractor in Brussels). Our partner network is fully certified.

CWaPE green certificates (Qualiwatt successor)
The Walloon mechanism awards green certificates in proportion to the green energy produced. Each certificate is bought back by the grid operator at a rate guaranteed for 5 years, for a total often equivalent to 40–50 % of the installation cost.

Brugel green certificates + Renolution grant
Brussels combines a green-certificate mechanism over 10 years (via Brugel) and a Renolution grant for integrating solar in renovation. The Renolution grant is increased for low or middle-income households and can reach several thousand euros.

Fluvius prosumer tariff + Mijn VerbouwPremie

What are the grants for solar panels in Belgium in 2026?
Depending on your region: in Wallonia, green certificates for 5 years (around 2 200 €/year for 6 kWc); in Brussels, Brugel green certificates over 10 years plus a Renolution grant; in Flanders, a Fluvius prosumer tariff and municipal grants via Mijn VerbouwPremie. In every region, VAT is reduced to 6 % for homes older than 10 years.
What is a green certificate and how does it work?
A green certificate is awarded for each MWh of green electricity produced. The grid operator (Ores in Wallonia, Brugel in Brussels) buys these certificates at a guaranteed rate. So it’s an annual income for the duration of the mechanism (5 years in Wallonia, 10 years in Brussels) that reduces the net cost of the installation.
Can the Renolution grant be combined with green certificates?
Yes, in Brussels the two mechanisms can be combined: you can benefit from both the Brugel green certificates over 10 years and a Renolution grant for the photovoltaic installation, provided you file the Renolution file before works begin and live in a home older than 10 years.
How do you qualify for 6 % VAT on a solar installation?
The reduced 6 % VAT applies to renovation of a home older than 10 years used for private purposes. It is automatically applied on the invoice if the conditions are met; our installer checks your eligibility during the technical visit. On a 9 000 € installation, the saving is around 1 350 €.
Should the grant file be filed before or after the works?
It depends on the region and the mechanism. The Renolution grant in Brussels must be filed before works begin. The CWaPE declaration in Wallonia is made after commissioning but before the grid operator’s first bill. We manage the deadlines for each file.
How long does processing a solar grant file take?
Depending on the mechanism: the CWaPE declaration in Wallonia generates the first certificates in 2 to 4 weeks. The first Renolution grant payment in Brussels usually comes within 3 months of receipt of the complete file. We follow up until the first payment.
